Memorial Tournament
Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Ohio was this past weekend. We lived in Columbus Ohio for a few years (8th thru 10th grade) and one year Dad got tickets to the tournament. I'll never forget what it felt like to go that first professional golf tournament. The grounds were immaculate and I wore my KC Royals hat, just in case we ran into Tom Watson! I remember loving that day as we ran into someone that wanted to save our souls by saying they personally knew Tommy Lasorda. We followed Tom Weiskopf(sp?) and watched him uncharacteristically explode on a few holes trying to hit it out of a creek and failing miserably. Dad and I pretty much spent the whole day out there in the sticky heat after thunderstorms in the morning.(I think Vince got to go another day) Tom Watson did walk by and I was sure that he noticed that I was a KC fan. I'm sure that I never told Dad how much I enjoyed going to that golf match with him that day.
Since then I've gotten to go to a Senior's Event at Lock Lloyd in Kansas City and another one in Birmingham Alabama with Dad and enjoyed both of them as well. In Alabama I think we got to see Jim Colbert hit a hole in one. I've always wanted to be able to afford taking Dad to a couple tournaments a year (especially the Masters) but I've never been able to get to a position to be able to accomplish that. Hopefully over the next few years that will change. I would enjoy it a great deal.
